SPECIAL BENEFIT DANCE for fiddler Kerry Elkin with
musicians from Childs Play and calling by Steve
Zakon-Anderson. Come celebrate the musical contributions
of one of New England's finest dance fiddlers for the past
30 years, Kerry Elkin. Kerry has performed with Childsplay,
Wild Asparagus, Fresh Fish, and The Geese in the Bog, as well
as being featured in small ensembles with musicians such as
Mark Roberts, Laurel Martin, Dave Surette, and Mark Simos.
Kerry's music has been enjoyed throughout the United States,
Ireland and Sweden in dance halls, pubs and music festivals.
As many of you may know, Kerry was diagnosed with MS (multiple
sclerosis) in January of 2007. Within a short period of time
he lost the ability to play the fiddle. This has been devastating
for Kerry, and it is a great loss to the contra dance community.
Two benefit contra dances have been organized by Childsplay
(Bob Childs made Kerry's fiddle, as well as those of many
other contra dance musicians), on September 13th, in Greenfield,
MA and September 19th, in Concord, MA, to celebrate Kerry
Elkin.

Dances and Performances (Directions)
Sunday, August 17
7-9:30 PM Donation
|
Contra dance with Tim Van Egmond
and David Kaynor as co-host callers. Others welcome to
step in for a dance or two. Music by the All-Comers Band, which
just about any acoustic instrument can join. Dance will start
around 7 and end around 9:30. No scheduled potluck, but anyone
who wants to bring a picnic supper and enjoy it on the lawn
or the common is welcome.
Like many who have to fill an oil tank this winter, the Montague
Grange is on the verge of emptying its bank account, so while
the dance is always for fun, we hope it will be for profit,
too. Admission by donation. Information: 413-367-9380 or 413-367-9815.
